Keep It Tribal : Basel Tattoo – 17 to 25 July 2015

Event – 17 to 25 July 2015

Unique in Switzerland: the world’s second largest and one of the most spectacular open-air tattoos–the Basel Tattoo.

The Basel Tattoo presents catchy tunes known the world over plus original choreography and a brilliant light show, all against the beautiful historical backdrop of the Basel barracks (Kaserne Basel). Top musicians, show bands and the best representational orchestras from all continents whisk the audience musically and visually away on a trip around the world, guaranteeing thrilling highlights for all the senses. Marching to classic military music, rock-and-rolling to pop and rock evergreens plus massed pipes and drums from the Scottish Highlands all unleash waves of wanderlust in the gigantic Basel Tattoo Arena—and bands from royal houses create an atmosphere of royal elegance and glamour in Basel on behalf of various crown heads.

Since premiering in 2006, the Basel Tattoo has been attended by over a half million live spectators. Every year, 120,000 visitors enjoy this grand show of marching music with its fine signature blend of the traditional and the innovative. Another wave of some 125,000 visitors attends the Basel Tattoo Parades passing through the historic centres of Basel and Freiburg im Breisgau. In 2014 there were more than 450,000 enthusiastic viewers of the prime time TV broadcast by SRF 1. The Basel Tattoo enthrals about a half of a million people yearly!

The Basel Tattoo is staged under the auspices of the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS) and therefore has the status of being the official tattoo of Switzerland as it were.

I love any type of marching band…throw in some bag pipes and I cannot hear enough of them. There is just something about those pipes! I also like the Germany Military Marches/songs from WWII. I think people consider me crazy if I put the Miata top down and crank up those tunes, but hey what better “driving” music could there be? I am Scotch/Irish, so guess some of it is in the blood!

    One of my favorite songs:
