CIA agents and special operations troops have trained the rebels in anti-tank and antiaircraft weaponry in Jordan and Turkey.
WASHINGTON — CIA operatives and U.S. special operations troops have been secretly training Syrian rebels with anti-tank and antiaircraft weapons since late last year, months before President Obama approved plans to begin directly arming them, according to U.S. officials and rebel commanders.
The covert U.S. training at bases in Jordan and Turkey, along with Obama’s decision this month to supply arms and ammunition to the rebels, has raised hope among the beleaguered Syrian opposition that Washington ultimately will provide heavier weapons as well. So far, the rebels say they lack the weapons they need to regain the offensive in the country’s bitter civil war.

Hundreds of people in Luxor protested outside the governor’s office Monday after Morsi appointed Adel el-Khayat to lead the province. El-Khayat is not in the Muslim Brotherhood. Qaradawi Supports And Praises Turkish Prime Minister; Erdogan Meets With Hamas Leaders Ahead Of Gaza Trip

US media is reporting that Global Muslim Brotherhood leader Youssef Qaradawi has issued a statement calling on the people of Turkey to support Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan “against foreign conspiracies” *****as well as praising him for both the Islamization of the country and his anti-Israeli policies

June 13, 2013 Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi, president of the Association of Muslim Scholars, and the ideological leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, issued a written statement yesterday stating he fully supports Erdogan.

Qaradawi called on the people of Turkey to get behind the Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan against foreign conspiracies, so that the Turkish government can protect its historic gains.

Sheikh al-Qaradawi said the opposition who are protesting in the Taksim Square qualifies as a minority, and they should respect the opinion of the majority and refrain from destructive behaviors.

Qaradawi  also praised Erdogan for passing all kinds of social and moral laws against corruption of morality and religion in Turkey saying ‘Erdogan has an honorable stance on Muslim ummah.’

Sheikh Al-Qaradawi continued his stateminet, adding the success of Erdogan’s Justice and Development Party was due to help of Allah, because by prohibiting the use of alcohol Erdogan stopped moral corruption and destruction of society.

He also defended Erdogan government’s foreign policy against Israel. ‘Especially in Iraq, Syria and Somalia, Erdogan government had an honorable stance against the Muslim ummah’s enemies.

Hence the Association of Muslim Scholars appreciated the support of Prime Minister Erdogan, and wishes him success dealing with his domestic problems.’

Meanwhile, various media are reporting that Turkey’s Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan met late Tuesday with Palestinian Prime Minister in Gaza Ismail Haniyeh and Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal where they discussed the Turkish Premier’s upcoming visit to Gaza.

Youssef Qaradawi is the most important leader of the Global Muslim Brotherhood and is the de facto spiritual leader of the movement. He is also considered to be the “spiritual guide” for Hamas and his fatwas in support of suicide bombings against Israeli citizens were utilized by Hamas to justify their operations.  In 2004, Qaradawi turned down the offer to head he Egyptian Brotherhood after the death of the Supreme Guide. He is based in Qatar and has said the Qatari Emir has protected from being designated as a terrorist by the U.S. He has also reportedly amassed substantial wealth by serving as the Shari’ah adviser to many important Islamic banks and funds. Qaradawi is the head of the Union of Good (UOG), a worldwide coalition of charities helping to raise funds for Hamas and is the leader of the European Council for Fatwa and Research (ECFR), the theological body of the European Muslim Brotherhood.

In January 2011, the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs (JCPA) published a report authored by the Global Muslim Brotherhood Daily Watch Editor and titled “Turkey, the Global Muslim Brotherhood, and the Gaza Flotilla.” The report abstract states:

There is strong evidence for Turkish governmental involvement in the Gaza flotilla incident, with Turkish government support channeled through the Turkish Muslim Brotherhood network. Since 2006, Turkey has become a new center for the Global Muslim Brotherhood. The IHH was not acting alone but rather was an integral part of a Turkish Muslim Brotherhood network.

With respect to the Global Muslim Brotherhood, report’s second conclusion states:

The Gaza flotilla incident brought into sharp focus an even more significant long- term development: the growing relationship between the Erdogan government and the Global Muslim Brotherhood, which has given rise to some of the most notorious Islamist terrorist groups – from al-Qaeda to Hamas. Since 2006, Turkey has become a new center for the Global Muslim Brotherhood, while the Hamas regime in the Gaza Strip acted as the main axis for this activity

He was detained following terrorism-related charges that included being a member of Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan.

The Luxor Massacre has been mostly forgotten, but it deserves to be remembered as a template of the Islamist soul. The full horror of what happened there needs to be understood for us to understand what Morsi has just done.

US media is reporting that Egyptian president Mohammad Morsi has appointed a member of Gamaa Islamiya, a US designated  terrorist group, as governor of Luxor, a major tourist destination for foreign visitors and the site of a deadly terrorist attack by the very same group in 1997. According to a USA Today report:

June 19, 2013 CAIRO – Egyptian president Mohammad Morsi appointed a member of a United States-designated terrorist group as governor of a major touristic city this week, propelling more unrest in the deeply troubled and divided country.

The appointment risks further damage to tourism in Luxor, home to popular ancient sites including the prized Valley of the Kings, as some in the area have risen up in protest over new governor Adel Asaad Al-Khayat.

Al-Khayat comes from the political wing of Gamaa Islamiya, which carried out a horrifying attack on a morning in November 1997 at Luxor’s Temple of Hatshepsut, killing more than 60 people, many of them tourists.

The attack, one of many vicious assaults the group carried out in the 1990s, devastated the tourism industry for months afterward.

‘The person appointed as governor to Luxor is very controversial,’ said Egyptian political expert Khalil Al-Anani, who is currently in Cairo.

‘How can you appoint someone with this bloody history in a very important and strategic governorate like Luxor, which is one of the main (tourist) destinations in Egypt?’ he said. ‘This can worsen the tourism industry.’

On Wednesday, Egypt’s tourism minister Hesham Zazou resigned in protest over the Luxor appointment.

The uprising that ousted dictator Hosni Mubarak in 2011 prompted many radical groups that had previously rejected political involvement to reconsider their position. Gamaa Islamiya renounced violence in 2003 and created the Building and Development Party, which won 13 out of 498 elected seats in the new parliament. The parliament was dissolved by court order.

Analysts said they expected Morsi, who rose from the Brotherhood, to appoint a number of Brotherhood figures as a continuation of its policy to expand its control over the country. But the reaction nationwide underscores the problems of a system where local officials are not elected but appointed, a system under Mubarak that Morsi has retained.
