The Federal Charter of 1291

The Federal Charter from early August 1291 is Switzerland’s oldest constitutional document. In this ancient pact, the valley communities of Central Switzerland, Uri, Schwyz and Nidwalden pledged to help each other resist any threat of violence or injustice. Foreign judges were not to be tolerated, while the existing power balance remained intact.

The federal charter of 1291
Procedures for criminal and civil cases and for disputes among the signatories were also laid down.

This Federal Charter has been officially regarded as the founding document of the Swiss Confederation only since the end of the 19th century. The Federal Council was primarily responsible for this, as, taking its lead from the charter itself, it organised national jubilee celebrations in 1891 and then in 1899 made 1 August the National Day of the Swiss Confederation.

Underlying this was the conviction that the democratic Federal State of 1848 represented a continuation of the Old Swiss Confederacy that existed before 1798, and that the historical nucleus of this Confederacy lay in the Alpine regions of Central Switzerland. This belief was linked to the legend that a group of freedom-loving men had sworn an oath of confederate alliance on the Rütli meadow above Lake Lucerne. This view of history has since been instilled in every Swiss schoolchild as a compulsory element of the curriculum.

Invoking the Federal Charter as the most venerable version of the Swiss Constitution and thus establishing a centuries-old, binding tradition of a society sworn to uphold freedom helped to cement national cohesion in the democratic Federal State. The pressure of political developments after 1930 led to the Federal Charter being regarded as more than simply the basis for a defensive alliance, but as a resolute response to the threat posed by foreign powers.

Thus, through the practical application of this lesson in history, the public came to perceive this ostensibly unprepossessing document with its symbolic character as a key element of Swiss historical and political culture in general. This also led to the Federal Charter Archive being established in Schwyz simply in order to house the Federal Charter. The Archive, in 1999 renamed the Museum of Swiss Charters, was opened as a national memorial in a ceremony in 1936.

The Old Swiss Confederacy, however, was far less significant in the late middle ages, and it was not unique either. It constituted a peaceful alliance of a type also found elsewhere at the time. The Charter certainly did not amount to a revolutionary act of self-determination by the peasantry, but rather secured the status quo in the interests of the local elites.

For centuries, this alliance of the valleys of Central Switzerland from 1291 received practically no mention, the document itself only being rediscovered in 1758 in the Schwyz archives. In the constitutional tradition of the Old Confederacy prior to 1798, the alliance of 1291, in contrast to the Federal Charter of 1315 (Pact of Brunnen), played no role. Nor is there any indication that it served as a model for subsequent federal alliances. Unanswerable questions relating to its historical provenance and interpretation also suggest that the contemporary importance of this document in more recent times has been considerably overestimated.

An appropriate assessment of the historical circumstances does not detract from the enormous cultural value of this prominent document, which is still referred to regularly in present day political debates.

Summary of the Latin text

For the common good and proper establishment of peace, the following rules are agreed :

  1. In view of the troubled circumstances of this time, the people and communities of Uri, Schwyz and Nidwalden promise to assist each other by every means possible against one and all who may inflict on them violence or injustice within their valleys and without.
  2. Each community shall help the other with every counsel and favour and at its own expense in the event of any assault on persons or goods within and without the valleys and to this end have sworn a solemn oath to uphold this agreement in confirmation and renewal of a more ancient accord.
  3. Every man shall continue to serve his overlord to the best of his abilities.
  4. The office of judge may not be obtained for any price and may only be exercised by those who are natives or resident with us.
  5. Any dispute amongst the Confederates shall be settled by the most prudent amongst us, whose decision shall be defended by all.
  6. Those who commit murder shall themselves be put to death. A murderer who flees may never return. Those who protect him shall themselves be banished from the valley until they are recalled by the Confederates.
  7. Those who maliciously injure others by fire shall lose their rights as fellow countrymen, and anyone who protects and defends such an evil-doer shall be held liable for the damage done.
  8. Any man who robs a Confederate or injures him in any way shall be held liable to the extent of his property in the valleys.
  9. The property of debtors or sureties may only be seized with the permission of a judge
  10. Every man shall obey his judge and must if need be indicate the judge in the valley before whom he must appear.
  11. Any man who rebels against a verdict and thereby injures a Confederate shall be compelled by all other Confederates to make good the damage done.
  12. War or discord amongst the Confederates shall be settled by an arbiter and if any party fails to accept the decision or fails to make good the damage, the Confederates are bound to defend the other party.
  13. These rules for the common good shall endure forever.

Done with the seals of the three aforementioned communities and valleys at the beginning of August 1291.

Zurich shooting: Three people injured after man fires on people praying in mosque

Updated about 9 hours agoTue 20 Dec 2016, 2:11am

A man has stormed into a Zurich mosque and opened fire on people praying, injuring three, police say.

Key points:

  • Two of three men are seriously injured, police say
  • Officers said a body was found nearby, would not comment on link to shootings
  • Centre is registered as association enabling Muslims to practice their religion

Two of the three men — aged 30, 35 and 56 years — were seriously injured shortly after 5:30pm (local time), Zurich city police said.

The suspect, a man around the age of 30 years old according to witness accounts, then fled the mosque, police said.

Officers said a body was found nearby, but could not comment on any link to the shootings while investigations were ongoing.

Police said they had collected evidence inside the building and could not further comment on the motive or the suspect’s background.

He was wearing dark clothing and a dark wool cap, they said.

Police had sealed off the block near the mosque. About 20 police officers were present and an ambulance had driven away, a witness said.

The centre is registered as an association enabling Muslims to practise their religion, particularly through instruction on Islamic beliefs and teachings, as well as providing for the preservation of Islamic cultural values and scientific seminars, according to Swiss business data website Moneyhouse.

People at the scene told the Reuters news agency the Islamic centre on Zurich’s Eisgasse was used as a mosque, often by Somalis.

“We never once had a problem,” said Abukar Abshirow, a Somali who said he was a regular worshipper at the centre that attracted Muslims from around the world.

“We never had anyone come and say: ‘Why are you here’. We never had that.”

Across Switzerland, two thirds of its 8.3 million residents identify as Christian, but in recent years the country’s Muslim population has risen to 5 per cent.

In 2009, a nationwide vote backed a constitutional ban on new minarets.

The Federation of Islamic Organisations in Switzerland said the centre was not a member and it did not have any direct knowledge of the incident.

Another umbrella group, the Swiss Islamic Central Council, was not immediately available for comment.

EU Wants to Disarm Swiss People. Swiss say NO – urge you to say LEAVE

EU Wants to Disarm Swiss People. Swiss say NO – urge you to say LEAVE

EU Wants to Disarm the People

Is it still bizarre or just funny? The European Union wants to toughen gun control laws. And not for EU member states only but for every Schengen associated country. Switzerland is a part of Schengen since 2005. During the referendum, the pro committee always said that this membership won’t restrict our liberal gun laws.

In today’s situation it seems that this promise was a lie. EU head Jean-Claude Juncker wants a rougher gun law because of the possibilities for terrorists to get weapons. Wow! I never thought that terrorists respect the law and only use legally bought guns…

The newest restrictions include semi-automatic civil guns which look like (army) assault rifles. And here’s the beef: the large majority of our soldiers – our army is organized as a militia – keep their rifle at home. The newest restriction ideas from Brussels would make Switzerland less safe. Funny, right? And it would destroy the Swiss traditions we have since the old age of “Wilhelm Tell”.

Another part of the new EU gun draft concerns the way how you get a gun. In Switzerland you only need to have no criminal record and a certificate for buying a gun. The EU commission wants to add a proof of requirement where you have to declare yourself as a huntsman, shooter or collector. And you only get a gun buying certificate after a medical check-up. So, future terrorists will make legal armed attacks because they’re not insane. Yes, it make sense… NOT.

There is no peace for our time. Terrorists are threatening our freedoms and our way of life. After the attacks in France (a gun free zone!) and incidents of sexual harassment by migrants in Cologne and other German cities it’s understandable that many people are buying pepper spray or visiting self-defence courses. And some of them want to defend themselves with a gun.

The new EU regulations and bans are no solution. It creates more problems. And there are already enough problems in Europe: There are still the Euro crisis and mass immigration. Let’s start here and stop damaging the liberal gun law of Switzerland.

Juncker may say that it’s all for security. The EU commission should better listen to Benjamin Franklin: “Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.”

In 2001, over 76% said No to the EU in a referendum. Today the number would be much higher.

The Brexit is the first step to a free and self-determined life. We all are facing challenges and we have to solve problems. But there is no solution that fits for all. So there is no reason to stay in the European Union, an organisation which is far away from the UK and its needs.

The EU was initially founded as a free trade market. But politicians have transformed it in a political monster. This creature wants to run everybody’s life. Prime Minister David Cameron shows us that even the government of a member state cannot change the wrong policies of the EU. In Brussels, there is no debate, there is no separation of powers, and there is no democracy.

The British people deserve a better future. And this future is better off out.

Head of the Swiss Army fired the Alarm

7.01.16

The former head of the body now head of the Swiss army fired the alarm about the worsening social imbalances, the terrorist threat and the risks associated with migration.

André Blattmann, like any member of the Swiss army, a hybrid character civil half military half. Specialist in air defense and for pilot training, he took command of Swiss forces in 2009.
Commenting for the first time the situation since the attacks in France on November 13, he warned against an “explosion of insecurity in the last two years”, this while the defense budget had been significantly reduced. He then explained: “Although we have not been directly affected by the events of the war in the world today, we can already feel the effects.
He continued: “The terrorist threat increases, hybrid wars are becoming more frequent, the economic outlook has darkened and migration caused by these wars and economic problems have already taken an unsuspected proportion, exacerbating competition the labor market.
Finally, he emphasized that “the mixture is becoming more explosive” and that “the foundations of prosperity are once again called into question.” In conclusion, and according to him, the situation is reminiscent of the years of the interwar period, and Swiss citizens should arm themselves to face the challenges ahead.
In the Schweiz am Sonntag newspaper, the head of the army resumed its warnings against social unrest in Europe. He sees evidence of these in the form of increasingly aggressive public speeches.
André Blattmann was initiated several years preparing Switzerland to react to various threats, including one imagined the secession of a French territory, that decides to attack its neighbor. Obviously, these comments were strongly criticized by the left and the Greens policies. They claimed that these statements were “exaggerated” and that all was well in the best of worlds – that of the Confederation course.
But they would do well not to take lightly the words of this soldier.
For the record, André Blattmann had explained a few days before the November bombings: “The terrorist threat is more concrete again to the West. “Result: 130 dead …
It is worth remembering that most Swiss are armed. 3,000,000 firearms thus account for 8 million people. Each Helvète, almost, since each has his gun Swiss citizen is a soldier, even if the ammunition is being kept dissociated in the barracks.

To be clear I support The Swiss Army ..Whatever Semper Fi, The question of implicate the Army in protection of civilians from all kind of Jihadist, will be the question in few countries on the run of 2016

Swiss Association Vigilance Islam

After books, action. Author of two books critical of Islamic fundamentalism, journalist Mireille Valette just founded the Swiss Association vigilance Islam (ASVI), to “bring together those concerned about the Islamization of Switzerland and Europe,” explained Time at the end of June It now has several dozen members. What for? Interview.

Mireille Valette, why create this association?

Because the development of a literal Islam in Switzerland favors the claims contrary to our values, equality between men and women, for example, and bears generally affecting the secular character of our society. Gradually we come to accept requests for halal meals, medical examination of Muslim women by women, the veil in public places or schools. In the past, girls are so designated as sexual objects and boys as potential predators.

The creation of an association against Islamism would it not have been clearer? You shuffle the debate.

Thorny problem. The literal Islam considers the Koran as perfect. However, this book contains precepts, injunctions regarding such unacceptable amputation of thieves, slavery, women, polygamy, treatment of religious minorities, etc.

In your opinion, can not be a Muslim without being Islamist?

One can, fortunately. But when in the Tribune de Geneva from July 7, Gottfried Locher, president of the Swiss Council of Religions, explains a point to debate with leaders recognized Swiss Muslims is the issue of “freely leave his religion” and that the debate ” will be hot “because” deny his faith in Islam is not a sinecure, “I conclude that these religious leaders who say all year long they comply with Swiss law in fact does not meet the one of its basic components, the freedom of conscience. Can they really be considered integrated … moderate Muslims? And the three imams interviewed by this time from April 30, including that of the great mosque of Geneva, who refuse to condemn the stoning and polygamy, they represent Islam or Islamism? As our association, “there is no watertight division” between the two approaches.

Our societies have accepted their own Christian Diversity. Why not adapt to certain requests of Muslims?

Which ones? I do not accept any compromise on the claims which are or bigoted or reactionary. Those relating to women, morals or freedom of expression. It is very weakened. Self-censorship is widespread. The intolerance of the devotees is so integrated that deprogrammed early manifestations of our cultural heritage. See recently Britten’s opera. On his blog, Hani Ramadan, director of the Islamic Center, attributes all the ills of the planet “Zionism” without arousing the slightest indignation. Now the radicalization of Muslim communities in Europe and Switzerland is accelerating, especially among youth.

The University of Fribourg Switzerland has launched a Center for Islam “include Muslims in a scientific dialogue, subject to qualitative criteria of rationality.” It is opposed by the UDC. What do you think?

Basically, I was favorable. I am more after making a survey to be released in September. The center will address such professionals in contact with Muslims. I fear alas whether example to explain to healthcare professionals how to “treat the Muslim woman” to fit his beliefs rather than teaching them how to understand that Switzerland, patients are treated on an equal basis regardless of their religion or gender.

You condemn the “convenience of the elites face retrograde claims of Muslim communities.” In Geneva, in which facts are you referring to?

The scarf girls is accepted in all schools. A prayer room was installed Lullier. An opera by Britten was canceled and rescheduled. Left, particularly the Greens, no critical debate on Islam or on the sailing is possible on behalf of the refusal to stigmatize.

Your association has set itself the aim of participating in political debate. How?

By entering for example the collection of signatures on the initiative on banning the full veil in Switzerland. I also would dream to launch an initiative banning the wearing of headscarves by students in Geneva.

Muslim Shouting “Allahu Akbar” Threatens to Blow Up Swiss Plane

ByPamela Geller on May 14, 2014

Helvetic_airways_fokker100_hb-jvg_arp

“The Kosovar newspaper quoted the man as saying ‘Allah is great’ before threatening to blow up the plane, 20 Minuti said.” But “the Kosovar police representative said at no time were passengers put at risk and the man implicated did not mention the word ‘Allah.’” The police of the Islamic supremacist Kosovar state (thanks, Bill Clinton) are clearly trying to cover up what happened. But the newspaper report is based on eyewitness accounts from passengers. So we see once again authorities whitewashing jihad to try to keep the public ignorant and complacent.

HelveticAirways

“Passenger ‘threatens to blow up Swiss plane,’” The Local, May 12, 2014:

A passenger threatened to blow up a plane carrying 150 people from Zurich to Pristina on Sunday, according to a report from Kosovo cited by the Swiss press.

The passenger, described as a man about 35 years old, brandished a cigarette lighter and a bottle filled with liquid and shouted threats, Italian-language Ticino newspaper 20 Minuti said on Monday.

The tabloid based its information on a report from Kosovar newspaper Koha Dittore. although this was contradicted by another account of what happened.

Albanian newspaper Gazeta Express said in an online report that the plane was operated by Swiss carrier Helvetic Airways, although the company declined to comment on the case when initially contacted.

The Kosovar newspaper quoted the man as saying “Allah is great” before threatening to blow up the plane, 20 Minuti said.

“We all go before God, do you want to go to heaven or hell,” the man is alleged to have said as the aircraft was travelling at an altitude of 10,000 metres.

“God is first, then comes Mohammed.”

the Kosovar newspaper said another passenger, experienced in martial arts, neutralized the would-be bomber, to the relief of the terrified people on board.

However, the Gazeta Express quoted a Kosovar police spokesman, Baki Kelani, who downplayed the incident.

Kelani said a difference arose between the passenger and a member of the plane’s crew but he denied there was any threat of an explosion.

“We have contacted the family of the passenger in question,” the policeman is quoted as saying.

“According to the information we have received , he was suffering from psychological problems.”

The Kosovar police representative said at no time were passengers put at risk and the man implicated did not mention the word “Allah”.

He was arrested for questioning by police after the plane arrived in Pristina.

6a00d83451bc4a69e20147e37f82a5970bWell, it’s the traditional St. Georges Day, so we should publish something for our English friends. I suppose I could write an article but a quiz would be more fun, and the Telegraph has a pretty good one for us, on England’s historic attractions. So take it and we’ll compare our scores.

Quiz: how well do you know England’s historic attractions? – Telegraph.

How’d you do? I managed 60% which is not optimal but then again, I’ve never managed to get to England either.

I had something else as well but my curating program is broke at the moment, so we’ll postpone it.

I see you stand like greyhounds in the slips,
Straining upon the start. The game’s afoot;
Follow your spirit: and upon this charge,
Cry — God for Harry! England and Saint George!

Hello,

I’m among some people who think, That if our own country are not willing to protect its own population against the Islamist threat, and let Sharia rule over us, even by democratic mean, as also their population grow so fast that we are doomed to be overwhelm.

So some solution must be found to help send families away from all this, to find security…

If You Look At Statistic Many British have already done so, unfortunately for them, for the most they choice France and Spain…Which both have a Serious Muslim Problem. Violence and so on.

The Cold did seems to be THE solution…Artic   Circle, Laponnia of Finland, of Sweden and Norway. Greenland and Island. Well, many things been done, may be some who went ahead.. and found house..job..

I give 10 years to Switzerland before Civil Unrest, might go even faster depending of our independence against the European Union, which with its immigration habit.. will terminate our Direct Democracy. And make us Bent To Islam As Tarik Ramadan wish so much in his speech here and there including The European Parliament. That’s the Normality.

So as abnormal, where can we still live a Westerner Life ?..

Iceland to Get its First Mosque

The Muslim Association of Iceland now admits that foreign donors will be paying for the mosque’s construction costs. The former mayor of Reykjavik says he believes it is outrageous for the city to give Muslims a site at no cost at a great location in the center of the city, and asks why political and feminist groups are so tolerant of a religion that he says degrades women.

The Reykjavík City Council has approved a building permit for the construction of the first mosque in Iceland.

The mosque will be built in Sogamýri, an upscale district near downtown Reykjavík on a highly desirable plot of land that was granted to Muslims free of charge, courtesy of Icelandic taxpayers.

Members of the city council — which is led by Reykjavík Mayor Jón Gnarr, who identifies himself as an anarchist — say they hope the prime location will make the mosque a prominent landmark in the city.

Critics of the mosque, however, say the project is being financed by donors in the Middle East who are seeking to exert control over — and radicalize — the growing Muslim community in Iceland.

Although reliable statistics do not exist, the Muslim population of Iceland is estimated to be approximately 1,200, or 0.4% of the total Icelandic population of 320,000. Most Muslims in Iceland live in the capital Reykjavík, where they make up about 1% of the total population of 120,000.

The Muslim community in Iceland may be small in comparison to other European countries, but its rate of growth has been exponential: Since 1990, when there were fewer than a dozen Muslims in the country, their number has increased by nearly 10,000%. Much of this growth has been due to immigration, but in recent years native Icelanders have also been converting to Islam in increasing numbers.

Currently there are two main Muslim groups in Iceland: the Muslim Association of Iceland, which has around 500 members, and the Islamic Cultural Center of Iceland, which has some 300 followers. The former group is run by Salmann Tamimi, a Palestinian immigrant who considers himself to be the voice of moderate Islam in Iceland; the latter group is run by Ahmad Seddeq, a firebrand preacher from Pakistan whose activities are allegedly being financed by Saudi Arabia.

Although both groups pertain to Sunni Islam, they have been openly fighting with each other for many years over who should be the rightful representative of Islam in Iceland.

In 2000, Tamimi — whose group meets at a make-shift mosque on the third floor of an office building in downtown Reykjavík — submitted an application to obtain a free plot of land from city authorities to build the first purpose-built mosque in Iceland.

Not to be outdone, Seddeq — whose group meets at a make-shift mosque in an old concert hall near the Reykjavík airport — submitted his own application for free land to build a competing mosque.

City officials responded by saying there should be only one mosque and that it should be shared by both groups. “Obviously we won’t be allocating two lots for mosques at this point and we find it natural for them to cooperate on the construction of one mosque,” Páll Hjaltason, the chairman of Reykjavík City’s Urban Planning Council, told the newspaper Fréttabladid.

Seddeq said he was open to the idea of sharing one plot of land, but Tamimi, who submitted his application first, would have none of it. Instead, Tamimi lashed out at Seddeq, accusing him of extremism, fanaticism and oppression in the name of Islam.

“Our application is completely different from theirs,” Salmann said in an interview with the newspaper Fréttabladid. “This is like asking the national church to be with the Jehovah’s Witnesses.”

Tamimi sought to undermine Seddeq’s group by accusing it of being financed by Saudi Arabia. At one point, Tamimi called the police to report members of Seddeq’s group, accusing them of misunderstanding the peaceful nature of Islam, and saying that he feared that Muslim extremists were attempting to gain a foothold in Iceland.

Tamimi also sought to assure the Reykjavík City Council that — unlike Seddeq — his mosque project would not be financed by foreigners and thus would not be promoting extremism.

“If we are going to have a mosque, it must be done according to local considerations,” Tamimi said in October 2010. “As soon as you lose sight of the source of funding you lose control of what happens subsequently. The experience of other countries teaches that it is wise to reject large foreign investments in religion. Such investors are much more likely to import their own countries’ traditions and not adapt to the traditions in their host country.”

In the end, city officials sided with Tamimi, whose mosque project was formally approved on September 19. After more than a decade of bickering, construction of Reykjavík’s first mosque is expected to begin in early 2014.

The cost of building the 800 square meter (8,600 square foot) mosque — which will include a prayer hall, community center and library, as well as a nine-meter (30 foot) minaret — is expected to exceed 400 million Icelandic Krona (€2.5 million; $3.3 million).

But now that the Reykjavík mosque project has been given the go-ahead, Tamimi’s group has changed its tune and now admits that foreign donors will be paying for the mosque’s construction costs after all.

During a newspaper interview on September 19 — conducted just a few hours after the mosque project was approved — Sverrir Agnarsson, a convert to Islam who is chairman of Tamimi’s group, the Muslim Association of Iceland, was asked how the mosque would be financed.

“We have received numerous promises,” Agnarsson said. “We are mostly seeking funding from individual foreigners. We have a right to get support from the collective funds of Muslims [the Ummah, or the worldwide community of Muslims]. We are doing all of this in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice to guarantee that all the money coming to us is received legally, and is not associated with any terrorist organizations,” he added.

The idea that foreigners are financing the spread of Islam in Reykjavík does not sit well with many Icelanders.

One of the most vocal opponents of the mosque project has been the former mayor of Reykjavík, Ólafur F. Magnússon. In an article he wrote for the newspaper Morgunbladid, Magnússon laid out his position:

It is a matter of grave concern that it seems to be no problem for Muslims in Iceland to finance such a mosque here in Iceland with money from ‘Muslim/Islamic promotion organizations’ abroad. They could receive financial help from organizations that want to increase Islamic influence in Iceland as well as in other countries. This can be dangerous for our national culture and safety.

Magnússon also said why he thought it was wrong for foreign organizations to be financing the construction of mosques in Iceland:

Islam is a religion with the goal to eliminate all other religions and to expand all over the world, the West, the Nordic countries…and now even Iceland. The experience in the Nordic countries shows that Muslims are not adapting to society. This has become a huge problem, in Malmö [Sweden] for example. The other day, a mosque was to be built on Trondheim [Norway], but the Norwegian authorities canceled the project because some Saudi Arabian organization was to finance the whole thing.

Although he is not opposed to the mosque per se, Magnússon believes it is outrageous for the city to give Muslims a building site at no cost at a great location in the center of Reykjavík. He also asks why political movements and feminist groups in Iceland are so tolerant towards a religion that he says degrades women.

Part of the answer may be found in the political make-up of the Reykjavík City Council, which is led by the upstart Best Party, a so-called joke party that was propelled into office in 2010 as a backlash against establishment parties in the wake of Iceland’s banking collapse in 2008.

The Best Party — a semi-serious far left party that is home to anarchists, atheists, surrealists, punks and poets — is being led by Jón Gnarr, a stand-up comedian whose stated political aim is thoroughly to upset the established order in Reykjavík. Critics say the new mosque represents a big step toward achieving Gnarr’s objective.

King Faisal Mosque in Basel incites illegal activity

King Faisal Mosque in Basel incites illegal activity

By Kacem El Ghazzali. this Article was first published in the Basler Zeitung.

In King Faisal mosque in Basel, at a location accessible only to visitors who come for prayer, you can find an announcement on the wall in Arabic, which is a fatwa by a Salafist sheik from Saudi Arabia, explaining to Muslims who live in the West how they should deal with infidels during their stay in Western countries.

The fatwa starts by explaining the concept of “infidel land”, defined as a land where Islamic Sharia is not applied. This obviously includes Switzerland, as a country that uses civil law as a reference, on the basis of a social contract between all citizens and foreign residents, which guarantees everyone’s rights without any discrimination based on gender, skin color, or belief; meaning that whoever chooses to live in Switzerland would have to abide by those laws, which also ensure his or her protection from any discrimination or persecution.

But when a group of Muslims deems as essential to obey a religious order, even before the nature of the relationship towards society and law is defined, especially when such an order is related to murder or theft, then such an act (issuing such a fatwa and publicizing it) should be considered as dangerous, as it ignores all laws and institutions of the State, and threatens public peace.

This is the case for the fatwa that has been publicized at King Faisal mosque. It urges Muslims living in the land of the infidels, Switzerland, to keep the peace and avoid fighting the infidels and stealing their possessions, but it does not stop there: it adds the condition for peace, must be that those infidels should not have fought them in their religion. At first glance, the reader might wonder, then where’s the problem? Switzerland as we all know is a country that does not participate in wars and has no enmity whatsoever with Muslims, and the Swiss Constitution respects freedom of religion.

That is true of course. Switzerland is a democratic country, and has an old humanistic tradition. But through activities that I followed, by some Islamist Salafist organizations in Switzerland, such as the Swiss Islamic Council (IZRS), I found that in their public meetings, they always put forth an image of Switzerland as a country that is waging a war against Islam and Muslims. What else can we understand from claims made by Nicolas Blancho, the director of the (IZRS), on the Egyptian Salafist channel An-Nas TV, that Muslims are suffering from discrimination and persecution, that a Muslim can’t get a seat in the parliament, and that this “war” comes from the fact that the Western cultural model does not accept an alternative inspired by Islam? I would ask Blancho: what is this Islamic model that he wants as an alternative for Switzerland? Is it a model à la Saudi Arabia, with public decapitations of infidels, where women are not allowed into public libraries? And what would you say about a Muslim father who forbids his child daughter from having swimming courses, because he considers her small body subject to male sexual lust?

When a canton forbids the burka, because it kills the individuality of women and pushes them to isolation from social life, Islamists consider that war on Islam. King Faisal mosque fatwa is therefore a call to war, anarchy, and disrespect of Swiss law, because it linked respect of the law and peace with a condition prone to many interpretations, especially when used by such organizations that adopt a radical understanding of Islam. And instead of being an obvious matter, respect of the law becomes dependent upon religious approval, the future of peaceful coexistence in society tied to religious texts from Saudi Arabia, and the mosque supposed to be a place of worship becomes an institution that meddles with civil law. We have to ring the bells of danger, pay close attention to such happenings, and punish those who encourage such ideas.

Save Muslims from Swiss Islamic Council (IZRS)

Not all Muslims in Switzerland are extremists. It’s a truth that cannot be denied. It would be sheer ignorance to lump all Muslims in the same basket. And when I discuss Islam in Switzerland, I am speaking of that group of Muslims who are trying to impose their laws, and are also characterized by deviousness when dealing with counter arguments. Once for example when I met Swiss Islamic Council president Nicolas Blancho in Zurich, I asked him about their position concerning the application of Sharia, which is in contradiction with human rights, does not recognize civil law, and considers that all laws must be derived from Koran and Tradition. His answer was a shock. He did not say that he was against anyone who infringed upon the law even if it originated from religion, or that he would not accept that in the 21st century people would lose their lives for changing their religion. His answer was: I am with Sharia if people choose it. This shows the nature of his ideology, for he would never say something like “I’m against killing people who leave Islam”, but he would say “we respect Swiss law because we can’t apply Sharia yet”. When would Mr Blancho kill apostates then, do you think?

Every year, Blancho’s association, Swiss Islamic Council, organizes a conference where famous sheiks are invited. And since the beginning, the event has been criticized for inviting some of the most extremist religious personalities. Switzerland only managed to deny entry to two among them, namely Pierre Vogel and Mohamed Al-Arifi, for their incitement to hatred and violence.

Switzerland: Entry Ban for Peaceful Islamic Preacher (Pierre Vogel)

But the most important question here is: why does the council invite sheiks who call for violence, infringement on women’s rights, and killing apostates and infidels? This shows us the true face of the council, which is trying to create a parallel society that refuses to obey the law, and fights government policy to help immigrants integrate into society. The council is therefore hurting Muslims first and foremost, pushing them to isolate themselves from society and its laws, using religion and mosques as a tool of incitement against the society where they live, with its rich cultural components deemed as “blasphemous”.

I know that this article will not be met with a positive and responsible answer from Islamists. I have become used to getting responses in the form of terms and concepts that are completely unrelated to the context of the discussion; only attempts to silence whoever tries to criticize their enmity and hatred to diversity. For every time such topics are discussed in the Swiss public sphere, you get the usual ready-made response, which has almost become like a cliché, “you’re an islamophobe”; and so they succeed, time and again, into diverting the discussion from their deeds and calls for hatred and violence, to another topic completely detached from reality.

When I say that I’m against those who want to divide society into infidels and believers, good guys and bad guys, clean girls and dirty girls… when I state my disapproval of those who await a fatwa from Saudi Arabia to teach them how to deal with society and live among the Swiss people, when I oppose killing apostates, or infringements on human rights in the name of religion, it is simply stupid and foolish to call me an islamophobe, because I’m simply calling for a free society, that guarantees rights for everyone, as opposed to a society that wants to bring back practices from the Middle Ages, when grinding wars were waged under the slogan: killing an infidel is not a crime, it is the path towards God.

Orwellian Jihadist Tariq Ramadan Delivers Annual George Orwell Lecture

Orwellian Jihadist Tariq Ramadan Delivers Annual George Orwell Lecture

Well, you can’t get any more Orwellian than having the supreme stealth jihadist speak at a “George Orwell” lecture.

Absurd.

“Orwellian Islamist Tariq Ramadan Delivers Annual George Orwell Lecture” Daniel Greenfield, FPM, November 14, 2013

The George Orwell Memorial Fund appears to have missed the point of the Orwell lecture. It’s not supposed to be a lecture by someone who embodies Orwellian societies.

But nonetheless the George Orwell Annual Lecture was given by Tariq Ramadan, a Muslim Brotherhood Islamist stooge who misrepresents his affiliations, on a properly Orwellian topic.  ‘Democratising the Middle East: A New Role for the West’

When Tariq Ramadan talks about “democratizing”, he really means allowing a fundamentally undemocratic Islamist group, the Muslim Brotherhood, to take over, in pursuit of its agenda of Islamizing, not Democratizing, the Middle East.

The Muslim Brotherhood is a totalitarian organization dedicated to taking away everyone’s civil rights while manipulating language. Its self-description as the Freedom and Justice Party turns out to mean slavery and injustice.

That’s certainly what we think of as Orwellian.

So the George Orwell Annual Lecture presented a properly Orwellian lecture while being too stupid to realize what it was doing, thereby proving that Orwell really is dead.

The “popularization” of George Orwell by college students helps lead to an absurd situation in which everyone completely misses the point. And that leads to an event like this coming to you in 2014

Emirates Airline Festival of Literature is held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, The Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The Inaugural George Orwell Lecture in Dubai. This event is staged in association with the Orwell Trust

Gavin Esler delivers the inaugural Orwell Lecture at Emirates Litfest. And he points out that The Ministry of Truth, depicted in Orwell’s iconic novel, 1984, was mostly dedicated not to rewriting the past, but to producing dim-witted but catchy pop songs, idiotic TV programmes and newspapers obsessed with crime, sport and sex. Did George Orwell really see into the 21st century world of the X-Factor, tabloid newspapers and Wayne Rooney?

And so we have it.

An employee of a national news outlet which everyone must support by law will deliver a lecture in a totalitarian Islamist state that argues that George Orwell wasn’t writing about totalitarianism… but about catchy pop songs.

It’s so brilliantly evocative of the manipulation of ideas that Orwell was against. And it’s being done in his name. Islamists are using Orwell to promote the Islamization of Europe.

(Note to readers, Islamist does not refer to a separate branch of Islam, as some seem to think, it refers to organized Islamic political groups and individuals who promote Islamization.)

ENGLISH DEFENCE LEAGUE 2.0

ENGLISH DEFENCE LEAGUE  2.0

In today’s Bradford Telegraph & Argus, Prime Minister David Cameron is reported as branding “the far-right” English Defence League as “hateful”. He said the resignation of Tommy Robinson and Kevin Carroll proved how extremist the organisation is.

Bradford Council leader David Green has apparently written to Mr Cameron calling on him to tighten up the legislation around EDL demonstrations and, in response, Mr Cameron said: “The police are allowed to ban marches on certain grounds, that’s set in law.”

Under the glaring eye of press and television, Tommy made some blunt comments about extremist factions within the EDL. He regretted his remarks later and apologised, explaining that he had not meant to suggest that everyone left in the EDL was an extremist or a neo-nazi, but that was enough incentive for the newspapers, television, Marxist organisations and politicians, left and right, to attempt to demonise those of us who are determined to continue the fight against Islamic extremism.

We would respectfully remind Mr. Cameron that our rights to peaceful protest are enshrined not just in English law and tradition, and in that precious English heritage we are struggling to preserve, but in European and international treaties and agreements. We are not knuckle-dragging hooligans who can be slandered and pushed aside. We are ordinary people, normal people, the English people, and our voice will be heard.

This coming weekend we will take to the streets of Bradford and we will raise our banners and our voices against the child sex grooming gangs that your authorities, Mr. Cameron, would rather pretend did not exist because to investigate them might upset certain parts of the community. We are not ashamed to expose these disgusting practices and the motivation behind them.

We are not racist, not violent, just no longer silent and we will not surrender!

Tariq Ramadan – A Wolf In Sheep’s Clothing

Tariq Ramadan – A Wolf In Sheep’s Clothing

Tariq%20Ramadan.jpgTime.com describes Geneva-based university lecturer Tariq Ramadan as the leading Islamic thinker among Europe’s second- and third-generation Muslim immigrants, who also inspires a good deal of mistrust–from both Arab Muslims for his Western sensibility and Westerners for his controversial Islamic roots. Although many European liberals appear to be enamored by Ramadan, Westerners have good reason to be leery of a man who equates secularism with dictatorship, opposes “economism, individualism, imperialism,” is far from liberal in his outlook – most obviously when addressing Muslim audiences rather than Western journalists, and who insists that the Qur’an and Sunnah should govern life for today (for everyone – not just Muslims). Tariq Ramadan is not the Islamic reformer some believe him to be; he is an Islamist, and nothing less. He is a wolf in sheep’s clothing, and fortunately there are many who are not deluded by what he appears to be (including the U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security).
